Putin bans 'extremist' candidates from elections

On June 6 the president signed a law which precludes those with any connection to 'extremist' bodies from seeking election to parliamment in September 2021 and for at least 3 years afterwards. The government is clearly worried about the elections. They have never gone this far before. Those with even a tenuous link to an extremist organization will be banned. Note, a person can never have been a member of such a body and will still be banned. The Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK) has been declared extremist but a court case has yet to confirm this. It is a racing certainty that the court will uphold the declaration.Navalny's followers want to promote smart voting. That means people voting for the candidate with the best chance of unseating pro-Kremlin candidates. This strategy met with limited success last time.
