Putin orders 36-hour ceasefire

On January 5 the Russian President said the ceasefire will be from January 6-7 over Orthodox Christmas. The Patriarch of the Orthodox Church called for a ceasefire, as did the President of Turkey. President Erdogan spoke to Putin on January 5 and suggested that there should be full negotiations. Ukraine said it spurns the ceasefire as it is a trick. Kyiv said the Russian Orthodox Church supports genocide against Ukrainians. Is it unclear why Putin is ordering the ceasefire. Is it due to a devastating missile strike on Russian troops? Is it a genuine Christmas gesture? Is it an attempt to regroup? He has not ordered such a ceasefire in the Chechen or Syrian conflicts.
