​Q3 GDP: Strong rebound, at a steep cost

Following a sharp, pandemic-driven drop in the second quarter (9.9%, y/y), GDP surged by a higher than expected 6.7% in the third quarter vs consensus forecast of around 5-5.5%, thanks, chiefly, to the unlocking of the economy in the summer months, and extremely strong loan growth. In working day- and seasonally-adjusted terms (WDSA), GDP grew by 15.6% in Q3 over the previous quarter, after some 11% contraction in Q2.
