Reduced lead does not alter Bolsonaro’s favoritism

The new Ibope poll on the runoff round of the presidential election shows that, considering valid votes, Jair Bolsonaro’s (PSL) lead over Fernando Haddad (PT) decreased from 18 to 14 percentage points.

The reduced lead over Haddad is a consequence of recent attacks on the PSL candidate. Aside from the accusations of purchases of anti-PT WhatsApp messages, there has also been a focus on the statements by federal representative Eduardo Bolsonaro (PSL-SP) about the Federal Supreme Court (STF), which caused a strong negative reaction from Supreme Court ministers.Jair Bolsonaro has even apologized for these statements.

However, these episodes have not had enough impact to change Bolsonaro’s favoritism in this dispute.Aside from the fact that we are in the final week of the campaign, the PT lacks a narrative that will lead the electorate to change candidates in the final days.
