Rising Tide of Opposition to President Zuma

Nowadays South Africa seems to be moving towards a point of "President Zuma vs The Rest!" Of course, President Zuma in effect represents a powerful and well-entrenched segment of the ANC's existing control structures such as the numerical dominance at the Party's National Executive Committee (NEC) and a number of Provincial Executive Committees (PECs). It is now common knowledge that the NEC is split in favour of Zuma's slate, So, for the time being, and at least until December 2017 this configuration is set in stone.Within the ANC alliance, all the allies, namely the SA Communist Party(SACP), COSATU, and SANCO (SA National Civil Organisations) have abandoned the Alliance explicitly because of the Zuma factor. COSATU has called for Zuma to step down and it refuses to have him address any of the workers' events. Yesterday, the Deputy Secretary General of SACP announced that he has laid a charge against President Zuma with the national security directorate for having lied to the ANC Alliance structures, specifically related to his reasoning for his latest Cabinet reshuffle and the sacking of Minister Gordhan. Of course, the opposition parties have been agitating within the Parliament to get rid of the president, using the vote of no confidence mechanism. But they do not have the required numerical strength. Now they are pushing for a secret ballot, hoping that some ANC MPs will vote with their conscience and support the motion of no confidence on August 3rd to oust Zuma. To this end, within and outside the ANC there are raging battles pro and against the secret ballot voting.
