On July 10 Russia said it is stopping gas exports via Nord Stream to Germany for 10 days. It is claimed this is for maintenance work. Germany suspects this is to punish Germany for backing Ukraine. Gas from the pipeline is sold to other EU states. On July 10 Canada said it has repaired a turbine for Nord Stream 1 and will ship it to Germany. Gazprom is then supposed to install the turbine. Canada and Germany's maintaining this is allowed despite sanctions. Ukraine lobbied against repairing the item. Gazprom reduced capacity in Nord Stream 1 in June 2022 to 40% of the usual level. It said this was because Siemens Energy had not repaired equipment on time.  Berlin admits that Russia might not restore gas supply on July 21. Moscow said it has never used energy for political purposes. Russia has already stopped gas sales to countries as Bulgaria and Poland. Nord Stream 1 transports 55 billion cubic meters of gas per annum. If all gas supplies were halted it would hurt both Germany and Russia badly. Russia thinks that Germany is not willing to suffer for long.  On July 11 Lithuania extended the list of goods that cannot be transported through its territory to Kaliningrad. This includes concrete, wood, alcohol and most chemicals.
