Russia bans US from hiring most Russian staff

On April 30 the United States announced that it is obliged to reduce services drastically at its Moscow Embassy. Non-emergency services will no longer be available. The change shall take effect from May 12, 2021. That is because Russia has limited the number of Russians allowed to work for the embassies of unfriendly countries. 75% of Russian staff at the US Embassy will be made redundant.Notarial services, reports of births abroad, non-immigrant visa processing and passport renewal will no longer be offered at the embassy.Americans in Russia with visas about to run out are advised to quit Russia by June 15. The US closed its consulates in other Russian cities in March 2021.
