Russia considering annexing Kherson

On June 6 a Russian politician named Igor Kasyukevich said that the Kherson Region of Ukraine ought to be declared part of Russia. Kasyukevich said a referendum should be held first. Russia did this with the Crimean Peninsula in 2014. Crimea was officially part of Russia until the 1950s. Kremlin officials and the United Russia Party have been vociferating for the annexation of Kherson. Russia has made it fast and easy for people in Kherson to attain Russian passports. Ordinarily this takes 10 years and is very expensive and complex. There is talk of allowing people in Kherson Russian social security payments. In Kherson the RUB, Russian mobile phone and are already operational.  Ukraine says 600 people have been detained by Russia in Kherson for opposing the occupation. Ukraine said most of these people are peaceful protestors.
