Russia declares several EU diplomats PNG

On February 4 Moscow announced the expulsion of certain Swedish, Polish and German diplomats. The diplomats supposedly attended unauthorized protests on January 23. The protests were for the release of Alexei Navalny. All demonstrations in Russia require police permission. The EU's foreign minister affairs chief is presently visiting Moscow. He remarked that relations between the EU and Russia are at an all time low. The number of diplomats expelled has not been specified.The EU has reacted strongly to the declaration of the diplomats as personae non gratae. It is almost inevitable that the EU will repay Russia in a like manner. Biden has also issued tough rhetoric towards Russia.Some EU states have called for Nord Stream 2 to be cancelled over the Navalny affair. Germany has so far resisted this. Berlin also stated that the EU needs to keep channels of dialogue open to Russia to discuss various areas of the world. The EU also looks like it wants access to Russia's Sputnik V vaccine.
