Russia declines to attend European security seminar

On February 9 Moscow turned down an offer to take part in a security conference with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The OSCE comprises 57 countries. Since 1991 Russia has always taken part. The refusal is a symptom of Russian disaffection, and Moscow stated that as the grounds for the decision. Russia cited the West's war games near the Russian frontier as evidence of the West's malign intentions.In 2020 Russia flew jets on more than 170 occasions to intercept foreign planes suspected to be on surveillance flights.Russia was displeased with the deployment of a third US warship to the Black Sea on February 1. Russian aircraft flew low over the ship.
