Russia increases energy sales to Hungary

On August 14 Hungary said that it has received extra gas from Russia. The Hungarian Foreign Minister visited Russia in July 2022. He is the only EU foreign minister to do so since the war began. Hungary stated that these talks secured the gas supplies which are 2.6 million cubic meters per day additional to already contractually agreed supplies.  The extra gas will continue flowing until the end of August 2022. Hungary is pleased with this and is trying to persuade Russia to give them more gas in September 2022. The Prime Minister of Hungary is the most pro-Russian leader in the EU. Hungary has secured an exemption to the EU's phasing out of Russian gas. Why is Russia selling extra gas to Hungary? They are rewarding Hungary for its nuanced stance on Ukraine. Russia is also seeking to tempt other EU countries to break ranks.
