Russia might be banned from the Olympics

On November 22 the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) announced that it recommended that Russia be regarded as non-compliant. The decision has not yet been reached. WADA stated that there was proof of data from the Russian Anti Doping Agency (ADA) being tampered with. On December 9 WADA's executive committee will discuss what action to take. Russia could be prohibited from taking part in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.Sport is extremely important to Russian national pride. This is the one area in which Russia can sometimes lead the world. In 2018 Russian athletes at the Winter Olympics has to compete under the Olympic Flag. WADA has repeatedly found evidence of state backed doping in Russia. There have been well over 1000 cases since 2014. The Russian ADA has not been fully co-operative with WADA and has missed deadlines to hand over samples. The Russian Government protested its innocence and said WADA was anti-Russian. Russian sports officials have not been sacked despite the doping.
