The data comes from the Federal Security Service (FSB) and were published on May 6.The other former USSR countries saw an uptick of Russians arriving mostly for extended stays. People have left because they oppose the war, fear conscription, dislike the new atmosphere of stifling conformity and for economic reasons. Some people were simply going on vacation or business trips. However, the number of Russians who have returned home has not been established. 200 000 Russians arrived in Kazakhstan. Uzbekistan took in 134 000 Russians. Georgia accepted 38 000 Russians in Q1 2022. That is a 470% Y o Y increase. The same was seen in Tajikistan with 40 000 Russians being taken in. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania saw major increases too. However, as EU states, it is harder for Russians to stay there. The FSB even reported 328 000 Russians going to Ukraine! People have gone to Egypt, Turkey and the UAE. 744 000 people went to Abkhazia which Russia recognizes as a country but most of the world sees as part of Georgia. The FSB has allegedly asked the kinsfolk of emigres to ask them to come home. They are often the best and brightest. The government has advertised for people to help with military mobilization. Reservists have been asked to register with draft offices to verify their addresses and medical fitness. This has led to speculation that later in May a general mobilization will be announced.
