Russia sells arms to India worth USD 14.5 billion

Russia is selling arms of all sorts to India. The total has cost USD 14.5 billion in 2018 and 2019 combined. Frigates, light arms and an S-400 missile defense system are all part of the order. India sent a delegation to the economic forum in Vladivostok. It was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.Arms sales by Russia have dipped over the past 5 years. Russian arms tend not to be state of the art and they are at the lower end of the price range. India is one of the few growth areas for Russian weapons sales. Therefore Russia is very eager to keep the Indians sweet. This has a bearing on how Russia handles Afghanistan. Moscow will be very sensitive to Indian concerns in the country.India and Russia have expressed an ambition to boost trade to USD 30 billion per annum by 2025. The current figure is USD 11 billion per annum. The target is going to be hard to teach in the time frame. Moscow has had a small Indian community since the 1960s but it is growing in numbers and affluence. Indeed there is an Indian school in Moscow.
