Russia sends hypersonic missiles to the Atlantic

On January 4 it was announced on Russian TV that Russian frigates armed with Zircon missiles have been dispatched to the Atlantic. The frigate is the Admiral Gorshkov. Putin is presumably acting tough to deter the West from arming Ukraine and also to distract the Russian public from the recent setback in Makiivka. Russia is clearly keen for the world to know about the deployment. Putin said Zircon is unmatched. The Defense Minister Shoigu raved on TV about Zircon's capabilities and claimed it has a speed of Mach 9, which is probably an exaggeration. Putin and Shoigu said the voyage is about deterrence of foes.  Russia has already used Kinzhal missiles in Ukraine. It has never used Zircon but has tested it. It can be used with a nuclear warhead. Russia is striving to develop hypersonic missiles further. They are so manuverable that they are almost impossible to shoot down. Russia is troubled by the US's ever more advanced missile systems. The US and several other countries are developing hypersonic missiles.
