Russia takes Lysychansk

On July 3 Ukraine confirmed that it had withdrawn from the eastern city. This is the first city that Russia has taken faster than Western pundits predicted. The city is on the west bank of Severidonetski River and on high ground. It had been thought that Ukraine could hold it for weeks as they did with other cities. Ukraine said it was obliged to withdraw as its troops were about to be enveloped. Russia now holds the whole of Luhansk District.  Russia will now probably move on Kramatorsk. The danger for Ukraine is that now Russia can advance quickly as it comes onto flat ground without any major geographical barrier for over 100km.  Zelensky publicly stated that his country sorely lacks material and technical resources. He is beseeching the West for more.
