Russian customs data made secret

On April 22 Moscow made the announcement. It is suspected that trade has declined precipitously since the Ukraine War commenced. The ostensible reason for classifying customs statistics is that they would be liable to misinterpretation. The Federal Customs Service is no longer publishing figures. The move is supposed to be temporary. The Russian Central Bank and the Energy Ministry have also stopped publishing some data.In January 2022 Russian exports increased to USD 45.8 billion, and imports were USD 23.3 billion. Imports increased slightly in February 2022 and export data was not published. Putin's economic aide estimated that exports fell that month by over 10%.
