Russian law requires Russian made apps on domestically produced devices

On December 1 Putin signed a law that obliges all phones, computers etc... manufactured in Russia to have Russian made software and apps. This law was not made in concert with business. It takes effect July 1 2020. The apps to be pre-installed are not named.The Presidential Administration likely drafted the bill. Yandex, Mail.ru and Rostec might gain from the act.Apple is discontent and might withdraw from Russia. It refuses to pre-install apps made by other parties.The government says this law grants the public wider choice over software. But it seems this law is about promoting Russian software which cannot compete in the free market. Presumably there is a surveillance element too. Russia envies China's degree of surveillance.
