Russian missiles strike Ukraine but ground attack stalls

On July 28 Ukrainian military bases in central Ukraine suffered missile strikes. Several soldiers and civilians were killed. Aviation equipment was damaged. Several small cities were hit. The attacks came on the Day of Ukrainian Statehood. Russian missile attacks and artillery bombardments are becoming less frequent. That is because ammunition is running low and Ukrainian rockets have hit Russian arms dumps. Russia has been obliged to move ammunition dumps further east: out of range of Ukrainian rockets. This makes it slower and trickier for Russia to provide ammunition to its frontline units. Russia declared an operational pause Donbas on July 8. Since then Russia has gained almost no ground. On July 25 the head of British Intelligence said Russia was ''running out of steam.'' The Ukrainians are slowly moving forward near the southern city of Kherson. They have damaged the bridges near Kherson. Russian now finds it very difficult to supply its troops in Kherson. Ukraine boasts it shall retake the city in September.
