Russian tech company proactive in asserting rights

Rambler, a Russian internet company, is standing up against US rivals. On December 12 police searched the offices of Nginx which is a major web server. Rambler said that Nginx was guilty of stealing intellectual property. Igor Syosev co-founded Nginx but used to work for Rambler. Rambler alleges that whilst at Nginx Syosev used a code that he wrote for Rambler.Nginx has been very successful since its launch in 2011. It hosts facebook, Netflix, Apples and Yandex. In March 2019 the US company F5 Networks bought Nginx for USD 670 million. Some say that Rambler is taking action against Nginx for being American owned. On December 16 the Rambler board, which includes Sberbank, called for the criminal investigation into Nginx to be closed. On December 16 Rambler initiated legal action for USD 2.9 billion against Twitch. Twitch is a streaming service owned by Amazon. Rambler wants Twitch to be blocked in Russia. The rationale is that Twitch showed English Premier League soccer. Rambler has exclusive rights to do this. Twitch is also a major streaming service for gamers.
