SA’s 2019 elections on May 8: Major political parties polished off their final rallies

South Africa’s top three contending political parties, the African National Congress (ANC), the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) held their final rallies over the past weekend, with the hope of securing more support so as to be crowned as the nation’s governing party for the next five years. Despite recent polls (by IPSOS/IRR) suggesting that the ANC will retain more than 50 percent of the total votes, the DA to collect between 20-24 percent, and the EFF to garner about 11-14 percent, the country might wake up on May 9 to totally different results than those predicted by the pollsters. In nearly all opinion polls a considerable percentage of participants, as much as 45%, has expressed doubts about voting at all. This casts a long shadow over the poll results and makes it possible for election results to come in at odds with predictions.
