Serbia starts using Russian vaccine

On January 6 Serbia commenced vaccinating people with Sputnik V. Politicians are the first to receive it even if they are not high risk. The purpose of this is to reassure the public that the vaccine is safe. Belarus is the only other country in Europe using Sputnik. The WHO and the European Medicines Agency have not yet approved it. There are plenty of vociferously pro-Moscow politicians in Serbia. There are linguistic and religious ties between Serbia and Russia.Russia plans to supply 2 million doses of Sputnik V to Serbia. A person needs 2 doses to be vaccinated. Pfizer BioNTech vaccine is also being used and so is the Moderna one. Serbia has sustained 3 400 coronavirus deaths which is low in relation to its population.
