Just two weeks after assuming the position of South Africa’s Finance Minister, Tito Mboweni had the unenviable task of tabling his maiden Medium Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) on October 24, 2018. The MTBPS is tabled annually in parliament in October and sets out the economic context and assumptions that inform the following year’s budget in February 2019, as well as the three-year fiscal framework in which the Budget will be prepared.
