Stolen Moldovan assets seized

UK authorities have seized assets belonging to Luca Filat. The 22 year old is the son of Vladimir Filat the former Prime Minister of Moldova. Vladimir Filat is serving 9 years in prison in Moldova for his role in 'disappearing' over USD 1 billion from three Moldovan banks in June 2016. This was worth 13% of the country's GDP! His son Luca spent USD 500 000 on paying advance rent on a luxury apartment in London and a further USD 250 000 on a car. He has no explanation for how he acquired the money. The seizure may lead to the Filat family returning some of the assets to Moldovan banks. Luca Filat may yet face criminal charges.
