Synthesis of the Brazilian Economy

The world is watching, shocked and apprehensive, the evolution of the war caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The aggressor is an autocrat who governs in nineteenth century style with twenty-first century weapons, leading an impoverished, deindustrialized and increasingly unequal country that lost more than half of its share of global GDP between 1990 and 2019 – while China’s economy grew more than six-fold. The heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people and the surprising reactions of the civilized world, including governments, citizens and large companies in many sectors, that are isolating the invader, bring relief and hope that the democracies, acting together, can defeat the brutality of tyrants. However, there is huge uncertainty about the coming events, and it is impossible to predict when the tragedy will end.
