Virtually leaderless, the country is facing acceleration of number of deaths caused by the pandemic, deepening of the recession and the worst institutional crisis since redemocratization in 1985. These crises are feeding into each other, creating a dangerous vicious circle, which appears to please those who want to benefit from the chaos. Rarely has the country needed healthy democratic institutions and the support of civil society in its defense so much. The clash between the noisy minority to whom Bolsonaro panders and the majority of the population appears fated to worsen in the coming months, bringing uncertainty and tension.​
