For more than two months, Brazil has been recording more than a thousand Covid-19 deaths daily, with a total so far of 93 thousand deaths and 2.7 million infected people, despite the low levels of testing. Nevertheless, the country continues without a health minister or a national plan to face the health emergency, which is being managed reactively by governors and mayors. Infected himself by the disease, President Bolsonaro spent a good part of July convalescing, a fact that together with the congressional and judicial recesses eased the political tension. The markets, awash with the extraordinary global and local liquidity, and without precise information about the evolution of the economy, operated with an optimistic bias. August will hopefully reveal to what extent this optimism is supported by fundamentals.​
