Tajik and Kyrgyz soldiers open fire on each other

On April 29 soldiers fired at each other across the Tajik-Kyrgyz Border. There have been clashes between local civilians for years. 4 Kyrgyz soldiers have been wounded.Tajik Ministry of the Interior troops were accused of using mortars. There is a Tajik water distribution facility called Golovnoi that is close to the area where the gunfire broke out. People have have been disputing land and water there for years. Tajikistan accused its neighbor of trying seize the water distribution facility.Both countries accused the other of starting the fight. A state of emergency has been declared in the Batken Region of Kyrgzstan.Over 2,000 Kyrgyz troops have been deployed to the conflict zone. Some civilians have been injured.Both countries are military allies of Russia. Moscow has appealed for tranquility.In early April 2021 there was a rumor that Tajikistan might exchange the Vorukh Enclave for other land. The Tajik President said this story was bogus.Earlier in April 2021 there were kidnappings and beatings of citizens of both countries.
