Tetchy G20 for Russia

On July 8 the meeting of the 20 largest economies took place in Indonesia. Western countries inveighed against Russia. Western countries did not walk out when Lavrov addressed the conference. The Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov walked out of the meeting because of Germany castigating the invasion of Ukraine. He is not skeptical of the chance of going to the US for talks.  A closed- door meeting also took place. The Indonesia President called for a negotiated settlement. The US Secretary of State said that Russia was an aggressor. The Ukrainian Foreign Minister spoke by videolink. Ukraine is not a G20 country. Lavrov regretted that Western countries did not address economic problems. The US said Russia has caused a global food shortage. The US called on Russia to allow Ukrainian grain shipments from Odessa.  France and the UK also made pro-Ukrainian statements. The British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss flew home early. UK Prime Minister Johnson announced he will resign in a couple of months, and Truss is starting her campaign to become PM. There is usually a group photo of all G20 foreign ministers. But not this year. The US has invited President Zelensky to a G20 summit in November hosted by the US.  The US Secretary of State has been speaking to the Chinese and South Africans. China is seen as vital in moderating Russia's stance. There is also a dispute over Taiwan.  Lavrov met his Chinese analogue on July 7.
