The CCJ approves the constitutionality of Pension Reform

​On Tuesday afternoon, April 23, the Constitution and Justice Committee approved the report by Rep. Marcelo Freitas (PSL) with 48 favorable votes and 18 against. The result was significant and reveals the strength of the Centrão.

Four points were removed from the original text: 1) the end of FGTS fines for retirees; 2) the possibility of changing, via bill of law, the maximum age for compulsory retirement; 3) the exclusivity of the Federal Court of the Federal District to analyze cases against the reform; and 4) a measure that only allows the Executive to propose changes to the Social Security system. These points, however, should not impact the R$ 1.16 trillion in savings that the economic team projects over 10 years.
