Both the Lower House and the Senate have approved a legislative decree overturning President Lula’s executive order that raised the Financial Transactions Tax (IOF)—a symbolic defeat for the administration in Congress that underscores growing dissatisfaction even among allied parties. Yesterday, the Lower House also passed the bill that increases the number of federal deputies for some states (PLP 177/23). The total number of deputies will rise from 513 to 531 starting with the legislative term following the 2026 elections. Today, Supreme Federal Court (STF) justices will discuss the liability of big tech companies for third-party content on social media platforms during a scheduled lunch meeting.
