BRAZIL POLITICS - Report 21 Aug 2026 by Murillo de Aragão and Cristiano Noronha

The Office of the Prosecutor General (PGR) has asked the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to send to a lower court the investigations into the alleged involvement of Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, known as “Lulinha”, the son of President Lula (PT), as well as allegations involving Dataprev and an attempted sale of cannabidiol-based medications to the Ministry of Health. The first debate among the presidential candidates is scheduled for Sunday. President Lula will not attend, nor is Flávio Bolsonaro expected to participate. Next week, on August 28, free campaign advertising on radio and television will begin. This will bring the campaign more directly into voters’ daily lives. The broadcasts will continue through October 1. The election will take place on October 4.
