The sixth day of war: Russians target more civilian deaths

UKRAINE - In Brief 01 Mar 2022 by Dmytro Boyarchuk

Also Ukraine received 70 fight airjets from the EU countries to cover the sky and the jets promptly joined actions already yesterday. A big change that we observe – aggressive shelling and missile strikes on civilian districts of Ukrainian cities. On the first days of the war the main strikes were on infrastructure objects and strategic military objects. But yesterday, exactly on the time negotiations were running on the Border of Belarus, Russians opened fire from multiple launch rocket system on residential areas of Kharkiv (see the link here). Over the night Russians had launched multiple ballistic missiles hitting primarily civilians. Today a ballistic missile exploded at the central square of Kharkiv killing dozens of civilians (see the link). These actions are a clear war crimes and they witness that Kremlin is in desperate position. Moscow, probably, is trying to intimidate civilians with those missile attacks to trigger pressure on Zelenskiy. But in essence the reaction of Ukrainians is the opposite – people become angrier and eager to defeat Russia. We still are waiting for Belorussian army to step in. Some Belorussian batallions were reported marching to Kyiv. But the main question whether Belorussians will try to attack on Lviv targeting to cut off Ukraine from military supplies from the West. So far nothing happened but military experts report that the offensive of Belorussions is the matter of days.
