BRAZIL POLITICS - Report 10 Feb 2022 by Murillo de Aragão and Cristiano Noronha

Today, a new XP/Ipespe poll on the presidential election will be published. The poll began on Monday, February 7, and ended yesterday, February 9. In the previous poll, carried out on January 24 and 25, Lula had 44% of voters’ intentions and Bolsonaro, 24%. The president of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab, said he is really hoping Rodrigo Pacheco will run for president. In case he decides not to run, Kassab said that the PSD will have a candidate and it could be Eduardo Leite. Kassab also stated that if the PSD does not make it to the runoff, the probability is for the party to support former President Lula. The Constitutional Amendment Proposal (PEC) submitted by Deputy Christino Áureo (PP-RJ) is unlikely to have been well received in the Senate because it has a high fiscal impact and little practical effect on fuel prices. The proposal that seems to have the best chance of advancing is the complementary bill approved by the House and that is currently in the Senate (PLP 11).
