Today begins dialogue on the reform agenda proposed by President Abinader

Today begins the dialogue with the political parties on the reform agenda proposed by President Luis Abinader in his speech on last August 18, on the occasion of the first year of his mandate. The dialogue takes place within the Economic and Social Council. The representatives of the political parties with congressional representation are invited to today's meeting. Subsequently, representatives of the business, social and labor sectors will join. The following political parties confirmed their participation in the dialogue: Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), current government party, the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) led by the past president Danilo Medina, the People's Force (FP) led by the past president Leonel Fernandez, and nine minority parties (PRD, PRSC, BIS, ALPAIS, PQDC, Frente Amplio, DxC, PCR, PLR). The call of President Abinader includes the debate of a constitutional reform to consolidate the independence of the Office of the Attorney General, as well as twelve reforms in the following topics: fiscal reform, labor reform, hydrocarbon market, quality education, social security, transparency and institutionalism, water sector, electricity, national police, modernization of the State, transportation and digital transformation. Former President Leonel Fernandez has already indicated that the purpose of consolidating the independence of the Office of the Attorney General can be achieved without having to modify the Constitution, while the PLD has not yet set a position on the issues that will be addressed in the dialogue.
