Turkey and Azerbaijan hold joint military exercises

On October 5 a three-day drill began. It is called "Unshakable Brotherhood". The two countries speak virtually the same language. The drills are taking place in the Nakhchivan Exclave. This area borders Turkey, Armenia and Iran. It involves drones, tanks and planes, as well as ground troops. They said they are enhancing interoperability. The aim is to fuse the two armies. This will lead to a diminution of Russian influence. Relations between Iran and Azerbaijan are at a low ebb. Iran held military drills close to the Azerbaijani Frontier in late September 2021. Iran and Azerbaijan have long had poor relations. Iran supports Azerbaijan's archenemy: Armenia. Azerbaijan has cordial relations with Israel. This infuriates Iran. In September 2021 Pakistani troops were also in Azerbaijan for military drills. Iranian truck drivers have tried to drive through Azerbaijan to Armenia. Azerbaijan has placed limitations on them and arrested 2 of them.Turkey was vital to Azerbaijan's 2020 victory over Armenia. Turkish technology and intelligence helped Azerbaijan achieve superiority in all sectors of warfare. Turkey is a NATO member. Other NATO countries such as the US and France are sympathetic to Armenia. In recent weeks there have been exchanges of fire across the ceasefire line. Russia has been playing the honest broker between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Armenia relies on Russia very heavily for trade and military support.
