Turkmen President appoints his son as deputy PM

On February 12 Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov made his son Serdar the Deputy Prime Minister. Serdar was also made Chairman of the Control Chamber. Serdar Berdymukhamedov has already held various ministerial posts and a governorship. It is speculated that the 39-year-old will succeed his father.President Berdymukhakhedov prefers to be called "Arkadag" (Protector of the Nation). If he retires as president he would continue as Arkadag for life. That is similar to Nazarbayev's position in Kazakhstan.Serdar is referred to as the" son of the nation" in the media. His portfolios cover digitization, finance and healthcare.
