Ukraine backed by Turkey on Crimea

On December 2 the Turkish Foreign Minister said that it agrees that Crimea pertains to Ukraine. The minister said that Turkey would enhance its military relationship with Ukraine. Russia gained control over the Crimean Peninsula in 2014. Only a handful of countries recognize Crimea as Russian.Turkey and Russia have a very complex relationship. They work in close concert on some issues and sharply disagree on others. Turkey would not usually say something about Crimea that would annoy Moscow. The Nagorno Karabakh Conflict has led to Turkey's relationship with Moscow deteriorating, which is why Ankara made this statement.
