Ukraine getting more tanks as Russia reactivates old models

On August 7 a Belgian businessman confirmed an EU country bought 49 old Leopard tanks from him as a gift to Ukraine. He will not say which country it is. Most of the tanks will be reanimated and the rest used for spare parts. It will take up to 6 months for the tanks to be operational. On August 7 Russia was reported to be taking 1,500 tanks and 1,500 other military vehicles out of an open air depot in Siberia. Some are said to be in poor conditions. The tanks are T 54s and T 62s. Clearly both sides think this war is going to last well into 2024, at least. There is little sign that Western support for Ukraine is flagging. Western experts have voiced admiration for Russia's elastic defense. It sometimes lets Ukraine penetrate its first line of defense because then the Ukrainians are vulnerable to artillery strikes and counter-attacks.
