Ukrainian Defense Minister resigned

On September 3 the announcement was made. This jars with Kyiv's recent boasts that it has broken through the Russian frontline in Zaporizhzhia Region. Ukraine boasted that the second and third lines were less formidable and Russia lacked reserves to stop the Ukrainian breakthrough. If Ukraine were doing so well, then the the defense minister would not have been pressured into resigning.  The rumor was that Oleksii Reznikov was told that if he did not resign he would be fired. There were mutterings for weeks that Reznikov would go but that it would be done amicably and another government post would be found for him. Reznikov is appreciated for holding the military together when it could easily have collapsed in 2022 and successfully persuading Western governments to provide arms gratis.  Rustem Umerov has been named as the new Defense Minister. Until now he headed the State Property Fund.
