Ukrainian nuclear power plant damaged in fighting

On August 6 Ukraine said that Russia has been using the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant as a military base and firing on Ukrainian positions from there. Ukraine does not fire back at the plant for fear of causing a nuclear catastrophe. The plant has sustained major damage but it is unclear who caused it. One of its reactors had to shut down. Areas containing nitrogen and oxygen have been damaged. Ukrainian staff are still operating the plant. It is the largest nuclear plant in Europe. Zelensky has said using the nuclear plant as a base is terrorism. In Kherson a high ranking Russian official was assassinated. Ukrainian troops are operating out of uniform in Russian-occupied areas. The International Atomic Energy Agency said there is a serious risk of a nuclear disaster. The EU also condemned the presence of the Russian Army at the plant.
