US law targets Russian doping

On December 6 Trump signed a law that empowers US law enforcement to arrest and prosecute those suspected of doping in sport anywhere in the world is US athletes, sponsors or broadcasters are involved in the competition. The Rodchenkov Act was passed on December 4. The World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) and other countries have denounced it as legal imperialism. Grigory Rodchenkov was head of Russian anti-doping. He later fled to the US in 2016 and gave chapter and verse on how Russia doped its athletes. The law bears his name. WADA is worried about the law. It will end the current situation whereby every athlete is subject to the same laws. It also seems to lend credibility to Russia's narrative that the exposure of Russian doping is a falsehood concocted by the US.American college and professional athletes do not come under the purview of the Rodchenkov Act.Sport is vital to Russian prestige. It is the one area in which Russia regularly beats the US. Even Moscow admits that there was large scale Russian doping but inculpates Rodchenkov for it.
