US says it is giving captured Iranian arms to Ukraine

On April 9 the US military made the announcement. The shipments include ammunition and small arms. These Iranian-manufactured weapons were used by Houthi rebels in Yemen. The Yemeni Army captured the weapons in battles against the Houthis. Ukraine is grateful for shipments but small arms inflict very few casualties. Most casualties come from artillery shells, rockets, missiles and drones. This is what Ukraine wants. The US is giving these small arms because the US Congress refuses to release funding for heavy weapons. On April 8 Zelensky used his strongest language yet and said without major arms donations Ukraine will lose. On April 9 the US announced it will give USD 128 million in spare parts and repairs for air defense missiles to Ukraine. This is a tiny fraction of the stalled USD 60 billion aid package.
