US warns Ukraine against Chinese investment

On August 29 the US Government announced that the Secretary of State spoke to President Zelensky and tried to dissuade him from allowing China to buy a Ukrainian engine manufacturer. Mike Pompeo claims that Chinese influence in the country is undesirable. China seeks to buy Motor Sich. The US has been lobbying against this since 2019. The company makes aircraft engines for military purposes.Some US companies are said to want to buy Motor Sich but none have been named. This is unconvincing. The owner of the company is Vyacheslav Bohuslayev. He has agreed to sell most of its shares to the Chinese but his government has not granted permission.
