Wagner recruitment suspended

The Russian private military company has been a vital component of the war effort in Ukraine. At one stage it had 50,000 fighters. Wagner announced the suspension of recruitment on its Telegram page. Private companies were required to sign contracts with the Ministry of Defense by July 2. Wagner has not done this. Wagner has handed over its tanks and artillery to the army. If Wagner does not recruit there will soon be a shortage of Russians fighting in Ukraine. Will more men have to be conscripted into the army? The Russian government had long denied any link to Wagner. But Putin then revealed that the state had paid Wagner USD 1 billion between May 2022 and May 2023. A Russian parliamentarian said the state has paid Wagner USD 10 billion since its foundation in 2014. Prigozhin was last seen in Belarus on June 26. His location is now unknown. He has ended his connection to his media interests. The Internet Research Agency that he owned might be taken over by the state. Wagner has units in several African countries. Wagner's future in Africa is unclear.
