It is over but for the full counting. With 45% of the votes in, Mayor Duterte is now ahead 2:1. Most observers are just happy that the elections were peaceful and clean and that the mayor will secure a clear mandate at 40%. This is around the same as President Aquino's in 2010 that helped him govern unchallenged in contrast to his predecessor. In an interview with CNN, the mayor sounded very conciliatory and for once, presidential, a quick transformation from the quotable vulgar talker who just last week shocked business groups not only with an un-businesslike speech but with a taped video of him chatting comfortably with the exiled head of the communist party who promised to return to the country should the mayor win. It remains to be seen how markets will react tomorrow. Chances are, with caution as we have said earlier until there is more clarity on who will be in his team and more importantly, who the real Rodrigo Duterte is. Meanwhile, Senator Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., the son of the late dictator is ahead in the vice presidential ranking and is steadily pulling away from second placer, the administration bet Congresswoman Leni Robredo.
