What we know at this time:The period for filing of substitute candidates is over. Presidential daughter, Davao Mayor Sara Duterte, decided to run for vice president under the party of former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Presidential aspirant Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. who is running under a lesser-known party, Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), “adopted” her as his running mate.The mayor’s decision seemingly caught her father by surprise. The presidential candidate of the administration party (PDP-Laban), Senator Ronald dela Rosa, promptly withdrew his certificate of candidacy (COC). The President then accompanied his former aide now Senator Christopher Go, who had been the party’s vice-presidential candidate, to file his COC for president, saying he himself will run for vice president. Senator Go is running under the unheard of Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS), supposedly an allied party of PDP-Laban.On Monday, President Duterte again changed his mind and decided to join the Senate race instead. His spokesman explained that father and daughter won’t run against each other as they love each other dearly.The Commission on Elections (Comelec) received close to 100 COCs to run for president in the 2022 elections.
