Zelensky's party cruising to victory in Ukraine, as he speaks with Putin

President Zelensky's party 'Servant of the People' is set to win easily in elections to the Ukrainian Rada (Parliament). An analysis of the various opinion polls shows that Servant of the People is due to score 47% of the vote. In second place Opposition Platform - For Life us due to win about 11% of the vote. That party is led by Medvedchuk who is seen as the most pro-Russian politician left in Kyiv. European Solidarity (led by ex-President Poroshenko) is on 8% in the polls. A pop star named Vakarchuk leads the Holos Party and is on 8%. Fatherland Party led by former primer minister Yulia Tymoshenko is on 6%.Polling day is on July 21. Parties need to win at least 5% to get any representation at all. Zelensky's honeymoon shows no sign ending. Moscow has been fairly quiet on Ukraine since he inauguration. They hoped he would give them what he wanted. He has spoken in Russian sometimes and agreed to truce. However, Russia has not achieved its major goals of Ukraine agreeing to Russian sovereignty over Crimea, Donbass and Luhansk.Today Zelensky had his first contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin - by telephone, reportedly at the initiative of Zelensky. The two are said by the Kremlin to have discussed negotiations in Minsk and prisoner swaps. Expectations are for improved relations with Russia - though the parliamentary elections will help determine to what extent.
