Zelensky open to compromise

The Ukrainian President said he is prepared to consider recognizing Crimea as Russian and independence for the Luhansk and Donetsk Republics, he said on March 7. However, he rejected ultimatums. Moscow said it would instantly end the war if Ukraine agreed to its demands. This includes neutrality in the Ukrainian Constitution. Zelensky previously ruled out Finlandization. He said on March 7 that NATO is not going to accept Ukraine. Putin has refused to speak directly to Zelensky. The Russian demand for regime change appears to have been dropped.Attempts to establish humanitarian corridors for civilians to be evacuated from besieged cities keep failing. Both sides accuse each other of breaking the ceasefire.Putin has said conscripts and reservists will not be used in Ukraine. There is evidence that conscripts are already being used. There is a rumor that Syrians have been offered USD 300 fioght in Ukraine.On March 7 Deripaska and several Russian billionaires called for peace. Their finances have been severely impacted by sanctions.Many Russian businesses are relocating to Armenia to evade sanctions. Armenia did not vote against Russia in the UN on the Ukraine issue. It remains to be seen what if any measures would be taken against businesses relocating there.
