Pavel Isa is one of the Dominican Republic’s foremost authorities on the country’s economic development and trade policies. He has worked in the public and private sectors, for multilaterals and think tanks, on issues facing the country’s economy, fiscal situation, politics and progress.
Dr. Isa is faculty member of the graduate program of economics at the Instituto Tecnólogico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and is an associate partner of Grupo Consultoria Pareto, an economic consulting firm based in Santo Domingo. He is also GlobalSource’s local partner in the Dominican Republic.
As economic advisor to the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development Dr. Isa assisted in the formulation and monitoring of public policy related to the country’s economic development. This included the coordination of national planning goals with the budget, accounting, and resource management systems of the government. Dr. Isa was also an economic advisor to the Finance Ministry, helping adjust and monitor fiscal policy during the early 2000s.
Dr. Isa has worked with the United Nations as a director of its World Food Program and as a research coordinator for its Office of Human Development. He has also done research for regional think tanks such as CIECA, a private nonprofit institution dedicated to economic, political, and social research, and CRIES, a leading regional coordination network for economic and social research, where he was also a board member.
Dr. Isa holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, has an M.A. in economic policy from the Universidad Nacional in Costa Rica and holds an undergraduate degree in economics from INTEC in Santo Domingo.
